Bon Temps Roullier! (Let the Good Times Roll!)
About Quarante
Quarante is a quite village which nestles in between
bountiful vineyards in southern France. The surrounding romantic
Mediterranean countryside provides vistas of vineyards, fruit
orchards and olive groves. Some tourists are inspired by the picture
postcard landscapes, others fall in love with the meandering
medieval streets of the village, some just love the laid back
Mediterranean lifestyle which has a way of seducing even the most
hardened city dweller. Maybe the secret here is that people have the
time to enjoy life!! You will no doubt find your own private reasons
for loving romantic Quarante.
Hiking
The walking
around Quarante is wonderful whether it is a stroll through the
village or walking in the vineyards, orchards and magnificent
scenery of the Mediterranean countryside. Take time to notice the
stone walls and bridges some of which date back to roman times. Wild
flowers, herbs and fruit abound and depending on the season you will
see bright red poppies, large plump figs, almonds, delicious
blackberries and of course the heady scent of wild thyme which
smothers the countryside as do wild cherries in season and many
brightly colored flowers.

exploring the tiny streets of ancient villages clinging to hillsides
and the mountains and valleys themselves where you can walk and
picnic. As well as getting off the beaten track there are the well
known attractions such as The Roman
village of Minerve ( 30 minutes), Abbey de Frontfroide (20 minutes),
Carcassonne and fortified city of 'La Cite" (the largest in Europe,
20 minutes) and the beaches of the Mediterranean (40 minutes). Plus
you have the cities of Narbonne, Bezier and Toulouse to explore.
Swimming and Sunbathing
The Mediterranean Sea offers beautiful
white sand or beaches. Swim in the beautiful azure water or just
enjoy sunbathing and relaxing. The Mediterranean Sea with all it’s
beaches and fine seafood restaurants is only 45 minutes from
Quarante.
Cycling
Cycling is a wonderful, healthy way to enjoy the scenic
countryside of Langedoc. Glide leisurely thru the many vineyards, or
cycle to the Canal du Midi and watch all the canal boats drift by.
Enjoy watching the boats navigate thru the locks or stop in a small
canal side village and enjoy a pastry or a romantic lunch. Sip on a
fine glass of wine while you are relaxing at an outdoor seating
café.
